Stout assisted the United States in its settlement with Olympus Corporation of America. Olympus, the United States’ largest distributor of endoscopes and related equipment, agreed to pay $623.2 million to resolve criminal charges and civil claims relating to a scheme to pay kickbacks to doctors and hospitals as well as Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations in Latin America. This amount is the largest total amount paid in U.S. history for violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute and the largest amount ever paid by a medical device company.
