Shawn Smith has extensive experience providing domestic and cross-border tax due diligence and tax structuring services to both private equity and strategic clients. He has vast experience across a broad range of industries, including insurance, healthcare, oil and gas, manufacturing, distribution, retail, construction, transportation, trucking, restaurants, gaming, professional services, technology, media and entertainment, and financial services.
Shawn advises on tax issues pertaining to mergers and acquisitions, tax due diligence, and tax structuring and modeling for domestic and cross-border transactions involving multinational corporations.
Prior to joining Stout, Shawn practiced in Grant Thornton’s Global Transaction Tax (M&A) Group, where he advised clients on federal, state, and local tax matters across a range of specialized industries, with a particular focus on insurance. He previously held a Vice President and Chief Operating role, overseeing accounting, as well as multistate and international tax compliance. Shawn’s background also includes post-acquisition integration experience and work in federal and state government.
