Geoffrey Smith is a Managing Director in the Investment Banking group based in the London office. He leads debt advisory work for the region and has over 35 years’ experience in investment banking, with the last 15 years in infrastructure finance.

Geoffrey has worked with corporates, funds, and governments in the UK, Europe, and the Middle East on a wide range of transactions, ranging across structured finance, derivatives, bond issues, and advisory mandates.

His clients include the UK government, Arqiva, Anglian Water, Goldman Sachs Infrastructure Partners, Macquarie, and HS1. He led the international banks in the restructure of the Aegean Motorways project, coordinated the shareholders’ sale of Isle of Man Ferries to the state, and financed the acquisition by Igneo Infrastructure Partners of the Helsingor-Helsingborg ferry. At Stout, Geoffrey provided debt advice for the successful sale mandate for Thames Clippers.

Before joining Stout, Geoffrey was a Managing Director on the infrastructure finance team at ING and worked for SocGen and Kleinwort Benson. Most recently, he was one of the first bankers to join and help set up the state-owned UK Infrastructure Bank, helping deploy £22 billion in financing via complex, first-of-a-kind transactions to assist the country’s transition to net zero.

Geoffrey served in the British Army and retains a series of charitable appointments relating to education and UK defence.
