Stout was retained to assist in the defense of a business owner under investigation for allegedly filing false claims related to relief available under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Specifically, the owner obtained Employee Retention Credits (ERC) and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans that the government alleges were obtained fraudulently.
Stout personnel assisted with reconstructing the accounting records, including payroll and other supporting documents, to provide an accurate and reliable basis for determining eligibility for the ERC and PPP loans.
Additionally, Stout personnel assisted in tracing the utilization of the funds received from the government.
