John Ashbrook has a valuation career spanning over two decades. He has provided business valuation and financial advisory services for numerous purposes including estate and gift taxation, income tax requirements, buy-sell agreements, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and recapitalizations, employee stock ownership plans, fairness and solvency opinions, and other tax, corporate, and litigation related matters. He has extensive experience with engagements involving valuation discount opinions (FLP/FLLC), restricted stock and blockage discount opinions, undivided interest discounts, C to S conversions, promissory note valuations, and private equity and hedge fund interests.

John has provided valuation services to a broad client base, including middle market businesses, multi-billion-dollar enterprises, private equity funds and hedge funds, law firms, accounting firms, and high-net-worth individuals. Key business sectors served include: general manufacturing and distribution; consumer products, retail, and food and beverage; automotive; real estate; media and entertainment; and engineering and construction, among others.

John has been employed by Stout since March of 2017. From 2004 to 2017, he was a Managing Director at FMV Opinions, Inc., serving as National Practice Leader in business valuation. From 2000 to 2004, he worked as a Senior Associate and later a Vice President in the business valuation group of Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin.

In 1995, and from 1997 to 2000, John was a Manager in the business valuation group of Ernst & Young, LLP. From 1992 to 1994, he worked as an analyst and later an associate at the Geneva Companies, a boutique investment bank. From 1991 to 1992, he worked as a financial advisor for Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance Company. From 1990 to 1991, he worked as a financial advisor for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company.
