James Baird

James Baird leads commercial due diligence, M&A strategy, and value creation engagements for private equity and corporate clients.

James has extensive experience advising financial sponsors and Fortune 500 companies on high-stakes investment decisions and strategic growth initiatives. He specializes in commercial due diligence, corporate strategy development, and post-acquisition value creation planning, with deep expertise across the energy, industrials, and business services sectors. His work spans the full deal lifecycle from pre-acquisition market assessment and competitive analysis through post-close transformation and growth execution.

James partners with private equity firms, institutional investors, and corporate leadership teams to identify and capture value in complex transactions. He has led engagements across a broad range of end markets, including energy infrastructure, industrial services, manufacturing, and commercial building products.

Prior to joining Stout, James was an Associate Partner at Bain & Company, where he led engagements in the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources and Private Equity practices. At Bain, he directed commercial due diligence and strategic planning for leading private equity sponsors and global corporations across more than 25 engagements. Earlier in his career, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, leading reconnaissance and armor units. He deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq in support of combat operations.
