Stout is thrilled to announce the winners of its 2025 LGBTQ+ Scholarship. This annual scholarship program recognizes and supports exceptional students who demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community while pursuing business-related careers.
This year, five deserving students have been selected to receive $2,500 each in recognition of their academic achievements, leadership in the LGBTQ+ community, and dedication to fostering inclusivity and equity in business and beyond.
Meet the 2025 scholarship recipients:
Bree

"This scholarship means a lot to my family and me. I have a huge passion for culture and diversity, especially when it comes to representing underrepresented groups and people. I am excited for my journey with Stout because it opens up opportunities where I am able to pursue these passions and implement them directly into my future career."
Kenna McGee
Majors: Economics and Environmental Policy
School: Luther College
"This scholarship enables me to continue studying and further my education. The Stout mentorship program will have a major impact on my career trajectory and my ability to reach the goals I've set for myself, academically and professionally. This scholarship has been a powerful reminder of the progress in LGBTQ+ representation and acceptance in the workplace. I hope it will inspire future generations of LGBTQ+ youth, particularly in communities where acceptance and visibility are still growing."
Erin Prendergast
Major: Economics
School: University of Massachusetts Amherst
"Business is an industry that is enriched when people of all identities are embraced and included. This scholarship is an important step towards a more accepting corporate environment, shining a light on the stigma regarding LGBTQ+ people in the workplace. Being active in both the business sphere as well as the theater sphere at UMass, I have a unique perspective on how my identity plays a role in my artistic and professional life. These experiences have allowed me to see firsthand how being your truest self can promote creativity and productivity, and I strive to support others in bringing that mindset to the workplace. Communities like Stout Pride give me hope for a future in which identity does not discourage anyone from making a professional impact. I am incredibly grateful for this recognition, and I am excited to be a part of those advocating for a more inclusive workspace."
Purpleline Zhang
Majors: Computer Science and Economics
School: University of Chicago
"First, this scholarship is a celebration of resilience helping LGBTQ+ students overcome barriers unique to their experiences. Second, this scholarship represents a recognition of my unique journey and resilience, affirming that my identity is an asset in the professional world. Third, this scholarship encourages me to pursue my aspirations in the finance and education industry openly and confidently, and contributing to a more inclusive, understanding, and equitable professional world."
Daniel A. Zhao
Major: Finance
Minor: Policy
School: University of Georgia
"I see this as more than just a personal opportunity; it's a commitment to breaking down barriers, both seen and unseen, that keep many from reaching their full potential. I believe true change comes from a collective and sustained effort, not just one individual striving forward but a whole community working together to create space, access, and opportunity for everyone. Access to resources and open conversations is essential for people from underrepresented groups to pursue, achieve, and excel in their goals. For me, this scholarship is a chance to lead by example and build the kind of visibility and community support I needed when I was younger. As a pride leader, I aim to show others that they belong in these spaces and have every right to dream bigger, contribute, and thrive wherever they are. Not only this, but I hope to be an openly LGBTQ+ professional and I want to break down the stigmas and hesitations others may feel about being themselves in their careers. My goal is to foster an environment where diverse voices are heard and valued at every level, not just in university but in the professional world and beyond. In the end, I hope to help build a future where everyone, regardless of background, has the support, recognition, and sense of belonging they deserve."
