Stout was engaged by a global Tier 1 automotive supplier of interior systems and components to value all of the company’s patents, patent applications, trade secrets, know-how, trademarks, and customer relationships, in addition to certain software platforms. The valuation was performed to assist the client to determine an appropriate transfer price for the assets to comply with transfer pricing regulations in the various countries in which the assets are owned. Stout’s analysis incorporated aspects of all three traditional valuation approaches – Income, Market, and Cost. Individual valuation reports were created for assets owned in the U.S., Germany, and Luxembourg. Stout’s work will allow the client to create an intellectual property (IP) holding company to facilitate centralized IP ownership, intercompany licensing, and IP monetization in the near future via sale of certain assets or the contribution of certain assets to a joint venture.
