Value Driver Digest Winter 2021

During a time of year when most corporate accounting teams are working to close the books on 2020,  this edition of Stout's Value Driver Digest is focused upon valuation and accounting impacts of COVID-19.

Featured Service: Intellectual Property Advisory & Transactions

For companies rich with intellectual property (IP), the need for complex patent portfolio management can quickly exceed the bandwidth of legal departments that focus on prosecution and litigation. Systematic portfolio review, mapping to current products, and market analysis are needed to realize value from patents that might otherwise be under-utilized by the business to effectively manage the P&L of in-house IP departments and help manage quarterly revenue goals.

At the same time, record amounts of available capital have changed the IP licensing industry, which has seen growth in litigation financing for emerging licensing entities and increased corporate transaction activity. Technology convergence, connectivity, and globalized markets have also created a need for risk mitigation strategies across a growing number of industries. To capitalize on opportunities or control risk, buyers and sellers alike require an advisor with deep IP licensing, litigation, and transaction expertise.

The Intellectual Property Advisory & Transactions practice at Stout is uniquely positioned as the only fully integrated team of investment bankers, valuation professionals, IP attorneys, and technical experts able to execute on the full spectrum of IP services required by both IP-rich companies and investors. Our team of professionals have more than 50 years of patent experience with an emphasis on litigation, portfolio evaluation, and complex licensing and sales transactions. They bring expansive expertise in evaluating and monetizing IP assets and have worked with numerous global technology leaders from Fortune 500 corporations to emerging companies.
