Steve played collegiate tennis at the University of Southern California where he won back-to-back NCAA singles titles in 2011 and 2012. He turned professional in 2012 and became the number one ranked American player in 2016, and was a bronze medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Steve is currently one of the top-ranked American professional tennis players.
Career Highlights
- Achieved career-high No. 21 and became No. 1 American in 2016
- Won grass-court titles at 2016 Nottingham and 2018 Newport, as well as back-to-back titles at Houston in 2017-18, becoming first repeat champion at the event since Roddick in 2001-02
- Reached 2016 Wimbledon 4R, but owns 1-8 record in Grand Slam 3R with 7 losses to Top-10 players
- Posted 7 wins at 2016 Rio Olympics, finishing as doubles bronze medalist with Sock and singles quarter-finalist (lost to eventual gold medalist Murray in 3rd-set tie breaker)
- One of the greatest college tennis players of all time; sweeping 2009-12 NCAA team titles with USC, winning 2011-12 NCAA singles titles, and ending career with 72 straight singles wins.
