Mark Buchanan is a Managing Director in the Investment Banking group. Mark leads the ESOP Investment Banking effort for the firm, serving the unique objectives of family, founder, and employee-owned companies. Mark has cultivated long-term relationships with privately held companies (including ESOPs) as well as several top-tier family offices, having completed multiple transactions across this network. Mark brings extensive experience in M&A, capital raising, ownership transition, recapitalizations, and ESOP transactions in numerous industries with an emphasis on professional services and industrial end markets.

Mark joined Stout from Macquarie Capital, where he served as Managing Director and head of the firm’s Family, Founder, and ESOP practice in North America, leading a team to deliver multiple successful transactions during his 3+ year tenure. Notable transactions include successive engagements with West Monroe, culminating in their recapitalization with MSD Partners, TranSystems on their recapitalization with Sentinel Partners, the acquisition of Eastern Wholesale Fence, NPS on their corporate carve out, and financing for KBP Foods.

Prior to Macquarie, Mark was a Managing Director at BMO Financial Group, where he served as a Managing Director and head of two business units, including the National Corporate Advisory platform and the business development function across the BMO Harris national footprint. Mark also served as Director of M&A at Career Education and as Vice President of Investment Banking at Credit Suisse.
