Two thousand and five hundred dollars was awarded to a student who supports the LGBTQ+ community and demonstrates a commitment to promoting diversity.
The winner of the 2024 LGBTQ+ Scholarship is:
Caleb Sandler
Majors: Finance and Management Information
School: University of Georgia, Terry College of Business
“One of the biggest things that drew me to this scholarship was visibility. The opportunity to continue LGBTQ+ visibility in a workplace that has long been disproportionately lacking. There is a stigma associated with the financial/business industry that deters many LGBTQ+ people from participating. Coming from an SEC school, this stereotype is one that polarizes LGBTQ+ people in regard to career development because they feel they do not belong. I hope to use this scholarship as an opportunity to become visible and show that the LGBTQ+ community is more embedded into business culture than is visible, hopefully showing other people in similar shoes that they’re not the only gay person in the room and that there is a robust community of support that is rooting for their success, like Stout Pride. I hope to utilize this as a first step in continuing my career as a vocal LGBTQ+ professional, breaking the stigmas I encounter as we all work towards a more inclusive, loving corporate culture.”
