We were engaged by counsel in a dispute involving a multi-billion-dollar multi-national medical device manufacturer. The scope of our engagement included the construction of a sales transaction database in connection with a tax controversy. The sales database covered every sales transaction from approximately 50 corporate entities for seven years (2001 to 2007). We extracted approximately 14 million rows of raw invoice-level data from an SAP accounting system. That information was imported into a database management system, reconciled to the company’s general ledger, and then combined with other product-related data to create the sales database. The resulting database can be queried using Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Access, or Microsoft Excel Power Pivot.
