A whistleblower alleged that its employer, a $12-billion publicly traded machinery manufacturer, engaged in significant accounting fraud. We were retained by special outside counsel and the audit committee to investigate the allegations, which ranged from accounting fraud to obstruction of audit. The work included the following: forensic accounting and technical financial review; transactional data and email/communications analysis; interviews of IT, accounting, operational, and other employees; and assistance in presentation to the audit committee and SEC. The client was able negotiate a successful result with the SEC.
