Stuart Ferguson, President of Stout Strategy, and Chelsea Summers, Executive Director of INSIDE Public Accounting, spoke about how private equity is influencing the accounting profession.
Over $10 billion in private equity (PE) capital has entered the certified public accountant (CPA) market in the last four years, and many firm leaders remain divided about its impact because the effects are uneven and still developing. PE-backed firms are often shifting away from traditional services such as public company audits and instead expanding into new advisory areas. This includes services like cybersecurity, outsourced accounting, expanded tax advisory, and M&A-related capabilities, which are areas that are higher growth and align closely with the evolving responsibilities of CFOs.
