Stout was engaged by counsel in a marital dissolution case to value a company with a significant amount of intellectual property and patents. The intellectual property and patents had recently been sold to a joint venture owned by the subject company and a large, publicly held company. The joint venture was being used as a vehicle for the sole owner of the subject company to sell his interest in the patents. As part of our work, we had to analyze the marital versus non-marital component of the intellectual property and patents now owned by the joint venture. In connection with this case, we also valued several other operating and holding companies, collectively worth millions of dollars. Our work was effectively used to settle the case.
