Stephen Burns is a Managing Director in the Disputes, Compliance, & Investigations group. He has over 30 years of professional services experience focused primarily on forensic accounting services related to large and complex commercial damage claims and disputes and forensic accounting investigations.
Over his career, Steve has been involved in an array of litigation matters related to international tax disputes, antitrust actions, insurance claims, intellectual property disputes and other commercial disputes. In addition, he been involved in several of the country’s largest Chapter 11 corporate bankruptcies as well as accounting restatements arising from investigations. Steve has experience across a wide range of industries, including medical devices and equipment, semi-conductor manufacturing, truck manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, utilities, medical equipment distribution, consumer products, building products and technology.
Prior to joining Stout, Steve was a founder and managing director at Natoma Partners where he was involved in several multi-billion dollar tax disputes between large multinational corporations and the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to Natoma Partners, he was a Managing Director for Huron Consulting Group and prior to that, a Principal at a Big Five accounting firm. Steve is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the State of Illinois.
